This is an excellent feature and the main point of the series. It did highlight really well links to other topics. It definitely has the advantage of keeping the size of the individual books down while still covering a vast amount of information in the series. I also found that it kept my interest going in the topic as I could see.
Case studies were good for reminding me why I was studying physiology and for putting the topic in context and testing understanding as well as knowledge.
I liked this book and when heading out and bring a physiology book with me I did reach for this over my copy of Vander due to size.
